The suspect has barricaded himself inside the old warehouse. He is armed and very dangerous. “He says he ain’t comin’ out,” an officer on a cell phone tells a second officer, both of them hunkered down behind the S.W.A.T. Team vehicle.
“So he doesn’t want to play nice,” says the second officer. “OK, bring’er in.” An odd-looking, rubber tracked machine, armored to the teeth, crawls into place near the door of the building. This thing looks like the bad end of business! The rpms rev, a long mechanical arm swings into action. And at the end of the long, jointed protuberance is a huge claw! The claw does not negotiate. Splinters start flying, and in a few seconds, the suspect throws down his rifle and comes out with his hands up high. The guy behind the door has some smarts. He knows he is no match for the TAC-CAT!
If this sounds like something out of a late-night, sci-fi movie, it isn’t. The TAC-CAT is a very real piece of equipment - an invention born of need and innovative thinking - and fashioned from the genius of three different companies, Caterpillar, Protection Development International Corporation (PDI) and EZ SPOT UR. Law enforcement entities all over the world, in their endless search for better crime-fighting and security measures, requested a better mousetrap, and the TAC-CAT (Tactical Caterpillar) was one of the results. These machines serve and protect in a unique way.
